Tanzania is one of Africa's premier birding destinations, with over 1,100 recorded species - more than almost any other country on the continent. This seven-day safari is designed for serious birders, with a specialist guide who knows where to find the endemics (like the Pemba Sunbird and the Usambara Weaver), the migrants (over 200 Palearctic species visit in the northern winter), and the rare ones (like the Sokoke Scops Owl).

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Arusha and Transfer to Lake Manyara

Met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and driven to Lake Manyara. Afternoon birding along the lakeshore - over 400 species have been recorded here, including huge flocks of pink flamingos, fish eagles, and migrant waders.

Day 02

Full Day Birding in Lake Manyara

A full day of birding in Manyara. Targets include the Manyara Sunbird (an endemic), the African Fish Eagle, the Goliath Heron, the Southern Ground Hornbill, and over 400 other species. We visit the groundwater forest and the lake shore.

Day 03

Lake Manyara to Tarangire

A morning drive to Tarangire. Tarangire is home to over 550 bird species, including the endemic Yellow-collared Lovebird and the Kori Bustard. Afternoon birding in the park.

Day 04

Full Day Birding in Tarangire

A full day of birding in Tarangire. The park's mix of baobab-studded savannah, riverine forest, and swamps supports a remarkable diversity. Targets include the endemic Ashy Starling, the Great White Pelican, the Saddle-billed Stork, and the Kori Bustard.

Day 05

Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

A morning drive up to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Afternoon birding in the montane forest on the crater rim - the endemic Forest Buzzard and the striking Silvery-cheeked Hornbill are possible.

Day 06

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Birding

A descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day birding and game drive. The crater is home to over 500 bird species, including the rare Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier). Picnic lunch by the hippo pool.

Day 07

Return to Arusha & Departure

A morning birding walk in the Ngorongoro Highlands forest, then return to Arusha by early afternoon. Drop at the airport or transfer to your onward destination. Transfer to the airport for your departure.
