Traveling to Tanzania with kids feels daunting, but it should not be. This six-day itinerary is built around families: short driving days, comfortable mid-range lodges with family rooms, engaging activities for children (Maasai lessons, nature walks, junior ranger programs), and safari drives timed for the moments kids love most. Suitable for children aged 5 and up.

Day 01Arrival in Arusha
Arrival in Arusha
Welcome to Tanzania. Family transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to a family-friendly lodge in Arusha, with a pool and gardens where the kids can burn off jet lag.
Day 02Arusha to Tarangire
Arusha to Tarangire
A short drive south to Tarangire National Park. Kids are usually most excited by elephants and giraffes. Afternoon family-friendly game drive.
Day 03Tarangire to the Serengeti
Tarangire to the Serengeti
A longer drive through the Ngorongoro Highlands to the Serengeti plains. We break the journey with stops at the Ngorongoro viewpoint and a Maasai village.
Day 04Full Day in the Serengeti
Full Day in the Serengeti
A full day of family game drives. The kids will be on the lookout for the Big Five. We include a Junior Ranger session with our guide.
Day 05Serengeti to Karatu
Serengeti to Karatu
A leisurely morning game drive, then a drive down to Karatu. Settle into a family-friendly lodge in Karatu.
Day 06Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha & Departure
Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha & Departure
We descend 600m into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day safari on the floor. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool, then return to Arusha. Transfer to the airport for your departure.
