Budget Camping Safari

Real adventure, lower price tag

About this experience

Real adventure, lower price tag

A budget camping safari is the most affordable way to see Tanzania's wildlife without sacrificing the quality of the guiding or the routes. You sleep in comfortable dome tents in designated campsites inside or just outside the national parks, with proper beds, sleeping bags, and hot meals cooked by your safari chef. The toilets and showers are shared and simple, but the experience is real - the sounds of the bush at night, the stars above the campfire, the proximity to the animals. Our camping safaris are private, with a 4x4 pop-top vehicle, a senior guide, a chef, and the full crew. They are designed for travellers who want the safari experience without the lodge price tag - typically $2,500 to $3,800 per person sharing for a 6-7 day northern circuit.

Common questions

Booking budget camping safari

What is a budget camping safari really like?+
You sleep in comfortable dome tents at public or special campsites inside or near the national parks. The tents have proper camp beds, mattresses, and sleeping bags. Hot meals are cooked by your safari chef. The toilets and showers are shared and simple. It is real adventure, not roughing it.
How much does a budget safari cost?+
Most of our camping safaris run from $2,500 to $3,800 per person sharing for a 6-7 day northern circuit, depending on the season and the parks. Peak season (July–October) is more expensive. We share a full breakdown before you commit.
Is it safe?+
Yes. Our guides carry first-aid kits and radios, and we use vetted, secure campsites. You will be with the guide and crew at all times. The "danger" is mostly from the sounds of the bush at night, which is part of the experience.
Can I upgrade to a lodge for part of the trip?+
Yes - many of our camping safaris include a night or two in a mid-range lodge (often at the crater rim or on Zanzibar). Let us know what you have in mind and we will build the mix.
