DAILY SCHEDULE

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 01

Zanzibar to Arusha

A flight from Zanzibar to Arusha, where your private driver-guide meets you and takes you to Outpost Lodge. The rest of the day is yours: gardens, a pool and a good dinner, with no schedule beyond settling in.

Arusha sits at 1,400 metres beneath Mount Meru, and the first thing most people notice coming from the coast is the temperature. After Zanzibar's humidity the highland air is cool and dry and the evenings are genuinely pleasant. It is a good place to reset before six days on the road.

Stay: Outpost Lodge Arusha
Day 02

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

South to Tarangire, famous for its giant baobabs and for holding the largest elephant concentration in northern Tanzania. You spend the day on game drives among them, then check into Sangaiwe Tented Lodge, which sits on a hillside overlooking the valley.

Tarangire is the park most fly-in itineraries skip, which is a mistake. In the dry season the river through its heart is the only permanent water for a long way, and the game funnels in: elephant in herds several hundred strong, along with the zebra, wildebeest and eland that follow them. The baobabs make it look like nowhere else on the circuit.

Stay: Sangaiwe Tented Lodge
Day 03

Tarangire to Central Serengeti

A morning drive in Tarangire, then a transfer to the nearby Manyara airstrip and a scheduled flight directly into the central Serengeti, turning what would be a full day on the road into under an hour in the air. You settle into Kati Kati and head out on a first afternoon Serengeti game drive.

Using the flight here rather than at the start of the trip is what lets six days cover three parks comfortably. You get Tarangire properly, without the punishing overland leg west, and arrive in the Serengeti with the afternoon still ahead of you rather than at dusk.

Stay: Kati Kati Tented Camp
Day 04

Full Day in Central Serengeti

A full day in the Seronera Valley with early morning and late afternoon drives, tracking the resident lion prides, the leopard along the watercourses, and the cheetah out on the open ground. Depending on the season the migration may also be within reach.

Seronera works year-round because its river never dries. That permanence means the guides know individual animals and their histories, so a sighting comes with context rather than being an anonymous cat in the grass. It is the most reliably productive part of the entire ecosystem.

Stay: Kati Kati Tented Camp
Day 05

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

A final morning safari in the Serengeti before the drive east and up into the Ngorongoro volcanic highlands. You arrive at Rhino Lodge on the crater rim in the afternoon, with time for sundowners and the view down into the caldera as the light goes.

The rim at 2,300 metres has weather of its own. Mist through the forest in the late afternoon and a real chill once the sun is down. After days on the hot plains it is a welcome change, and the forest around the lodge is used by elephant and buffalo, so the walk to dinner comes with an escort.

Stay: Rhino Lodge
Day 06

Ngorongoro Crater Safari & Return to Arusha & Departure

An early descent onto the crater floor for a half-day Big Five safari, down there while the mist is still lifting and the game is most active. Black rhino are the great prize; lion, elephant, buffalo, hyena and flamingo are all but guaranteed. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool, then the drive back to Arusha and the transfer to the airport.

Six days is enough to see the three headline destinations without any of them feeling rushed. Tarangire for the elephants and baobabs, the Serengeti for scale and cats, and the crater for sheer density, three genuinely different propositions rather than three variations on the same day.
