TREK OVERVIEW

7-Day Kilimanjaro Machame Route

The classic "Whiskey Route" with an extra acclimatization day: dramatic scenery, great success rates, and a lively mountain atmosphere.

Known as the “Whiskey Route,” Machame is Kilimanjaro’s most celebrated trekking trail. The 7-day version gives your body an extra night on the mountain, which translates into better acclimatization, more enjoyable trekking, and a higher chance of reaching the summit.

The route begins in lush rainforest at Machame Gate and quickly rises into moorland and alpine desert. You will sleep below the Lava Tower, scramble up the Barranco Wall, and make the final push to Uhuru Peak from Barafu Camp.

Machame is busier than Lemosho or Rongai, but the trail infrastructure, scenery, and camaraderie make it a favorite for solo travelers and groups alike.
