TREK OVERVIEW

7-Day Kilimanjaro Rongai Route

Kilimanjaro only northern approach: a drier, gentler trail that approaches from the north and descends along the scenic Marangu Route.

The Rongai Route is Kilimanjaro’s only trail that starts from the north. It begins near the northern border, crosses the mountain’s dry northern flank, and joins the summit trail at Kibo Hut. The descent is made along the Marangu Route, giving you views of both sides of the mountain.

Because the northern side receives less rain, Rongai is a smart choice during the shoulder months when the southern slopes may be wetter. The gradient is also gentler, making it a good option for trekkers who prefer a steadier pace.

Wildlife sightings are more common on the lower northern slopes, and the sense of wilderness lasts longer because fewer groups use this trail.
