ABOUT THIS ROUTE

The best acclimatization profile and most beautiful approach

Lemosho is widely considered the finest route on Kilimanjaro. A long, gentle western approach through remote rainforest and the vast Shira Plateau gives the best acclimatization profile on the mountain, the highest published success rates, and scenery that varies more than any other path. The 8-day version is the gold standard for first-time summit hopefuls.

Lemosho starts on the far western side of the mountain at Londorossi Gate, a remote entry point most other routes do not use. The first two days are through pristine rainforest and across the Shira Plateau, one of the most spectacular high-altitude landscapes on Earth. From the Shira Plateau the route joins the Machame path at Barranco Camp, then follows the well-tested Lava Tower acclimatization day before the final push.

Lemosho is the route we recommend most often for first-time climbers who have the time. The eight-day version is the gold standard: long enough to acclimatize properly, scenic enough to feel like a real journey, and quiet enough on the western approach to feel like you have the mountain to yourself. If you only climb Kilimanjaro once, climb it this way.

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS

Your Part of the Partnership

We handle permits, logistics, crew, and meals. Your job is to arrive fit, well-equipped, and ready to walk slowly. The better you prepare, the more you will enjoy every camp and every sunrise.

Build endurance with hiking, cycling, or swimming. Add a weighted daypack in the final month.

Break in your boots

Blisters end more treks than fatigue. Wear your trekking boots on long walks before you fly.
